Sound clean-up

Bad sound ruins a clip more than a bad picture: what tires the viewer is not blurriness but having to strain to listen. So an order lets you choose what to do with the recording.

Which level for which recording

Choose by your problem, not by price — the levels fix different things.

Remove noise. Steady hum and hiss: air conditioning, a computer, the street outside, a cheap microphone. This is the most common case: the recording was made in an ordinary room, the speaker was close to the microphone, and only the background gets in the way.

Clean up the voice. The voice is separated from everything else. Take it if the recording has background sounds around it (a street, a café, a building site) or music under the speech. After that the voice sounds as if it had been spoken closer to the microphone.

What we do NOT promise

On steady hum the second level is not audible. We checked by ear: where only the background is in the way, the difference between the levels cannot be heard. Do not take the second level “just in case”.

We do not re-record the speech. Clean-up works with what was captured. A lost word will not come back, a slip of the tongue will not disappear, and a quiet person in the corner will not become audible.

About someone else’s music

The “Remove the music” option takes the music out of the clip’s sound. It works together with “Clean up the voice”: with “Remove the noise” the voice is not separated from the music, so there is nothing to take it out of. It does not settle the rights to that music and does not replace permission from whoever owns it: we remove the sound, not the rights. If the music in your recording belongs to someone else, dealing with the platform you publish on is still up to you.

How long it takes

Clean-up runs before cutting and is counted once for the whole recording, not for each clip. The first level adds almost no time; the second is noticeably longer: an hour of recording takes about 18 minutes to process.

If it did not help

The levels do not stack: one order, one level. To compare them, place two orders for the same recording and listen to both.

If you are not happy with the result, write to us and attach an example: we need to know which recording the clean-up failed on. We look at such cases one by one — that is how it gets better.

Clean-up is available for dubbing too: the synthesised voice of the translation plays over the quietened original, and it is the original that gets cleaned — its noise, street and music are audible under the translation.
